start my training in January for conductor role, and it requires quite a lot of travelling for me.

Should I expect to receive my staff rail card before I start training for that purpose?
:)

You won't receive anything like that until after you start.

While you won't receive your "PRIV" card immediately, you will likely be issued with a letter or a temporary pass for the services of your employer.

But honestly you need to ask your future employer not a forum!

Northern right?

You may or may not receive a pass before you start (some recruits do some don't)

Purchase your ticket and the training school we reimburse and most likely sort you your temporary pass on the first day

I'm starting my training course for a Conductor at WMT after Christmas, I received a temporary travel pass to cover my training period when I went for my uniform fitting and right to work check.

Yeah I got in touch with hr and was told I’d be given a pass before I start. So thanks for the couple of you who gave correct advise haha.

I’m a conductor at northern & you should get the week before you start :)
If you’ve to travel on tpe you’ll be given a residential pass for travel when you get to training school x

It varies between TOCS so you need to provide specific information for people to give specific advice.

Good luck on the course.

I only started my job two weeks ago as a controller and I've yet to receive mine.

The Arriva team I'm with do get a travel card but we don't get the same privileges as colleagues who work for the TOCs. It's a bit more limited but I'm certainly not complaining as I probably would only use it every now and again anyway.

It depends - when I started we didn’t have a northern service from hull to Leeds so TPE direct was quickest option. :)
