I've recently passed interview and medical for a conductors job with Northern. I've got a start date too.
I was a PCV driver prior to this and always flew through any medicals.
The issue is my left eye is a lazy eye and when it came to "close your right eye and read from the chart" I was struggling. Even with my glasses that are bang up to date prescription wise.
So. From what I understand I had to be able to read the 5th line down with my bad eye. The 4rd line down was fine but the 5th line was a struggle.
I've passed the medical but it leaves me with a feeling of uncertainty regarding job security if my eye was to worsen slightly in a few years time.
So. Does anyone know where I'll stand with this? Can HR have some discretion? Or is it very black and white as to if you can't meet that exact standard then you're out the door?
My right eye is fine and both eyes together are fine. Its just my left eye by itself that is causing me some worry.
Baffles me that I'm fine to drive a bus or lorry but only just make the grade for train conductor.
