Well, TOPS was originally produced by the Southern Pacific Railroad in the early '60s.

Various telex communications and mainframe train planning systems came in the early 1960's - "Blocplan" in South Wales for example in / around 1962....TOPS was a real winner though and used / uses many USA abbreviations like "Carino" (car information) and brakevans were "Cab" (for caboose) -
