Computer joystick test?

Hi everyone,
I have the stage 2 computer tests next week and was just wondering about controlling the ball in the diagonal direction and around the semi-circle.

For those who have done this, is it a matter of using the joysticks at the same time to move the ball fluidly or would you use them independently moving the ball in a more robotic fashion?

Also, is it sensitive? does the ball roll-on or stop when you release the joystick?

Would love to get some prior input on this one, thanks.

any magic tips for doing well on the traffic scenes?

It is very sensitive, it will probabaly bleep to tell you you're outside the lines numerous times although this doesn't mean you have failed so don't let it distract you and finally the idea of the test is seeing you using two hands at once so a smooth fluid movement is what you're looking for.

Traffic scenes....don't guess. Just say what you see if you miss things you miss them(you will miss things).

I was incredibly surprised how sensitive the joysticks were. I went out the lines a lot more times than I care to admit and honestly thought I was going to fail it but somehow I didn't. Just stay calm and work at at sensible pace, try use the sticks together to make it a smoother process.

The memory test is also quite tricky as the pictures don't stay long so try not to blink too much haha.

got mine next week as well I use a joystick at work and have been practising with my left hand and I have had games consoles for 30 odd years so fingers crossed lol and good luch pheonix

next tuesday buddy I am hoping its done quick some people seem to have been in holding pools for years but others on here are starting 4 months after first e mail inviting to assessment

Yeah, i agree on that one. Some of the guys that finished when I did stage 1 also got Tuesday 4th, about 5 or 6 I think.
I have a feeling that it will be a quick process rather than months, well I hope so anyway. Just gotta put everything into it now, be positive and confident.

to be honest mate although i am taking nothing for granted i think people are either suited to it or not I thought I might fail the first lot was a bit surprised on one of the trp I answered half the 43 questions and i thought blimey not even 50 % but I did

Well done, I got to number 29 when time ran out on that one. Maybe your experience with consoles will help, although I wasn't bad myself, many moons ago, hahaha!

Just to add to the previous comments...

If you let go of either joystick, the ball will immediately return to the centre position on the axis 'controlled' by that joystick. The position of the joystick doesn't relate to how quickly the ball is moving or in which direction, it simply corresponds to the position of the ball on the screen. Letting go of both joysticks at once will mean that the ball will quickly return to the centre of the screen.

if you have a playstaion 4 get a game called super star dust, on the day when you're doing the test dont go straight to the starting point when doing the practice exercise, stay off it and get used to the controls. As the other guys above have the controls are quite sensitive, but i reckon playing super start dust will help with the movement aspect of it.

forgot to mention. after you finish the test when you're looking at the grey square for 30mins, give yourself a moment before continuing as the traffic scene test comes afterwards.

It's important to remember the tests are designed to test innate skill, i.e. You can't really prepare for them that much.

That's one of the (many) reasons you're not allowed to repeat the tests.

I appreciate that you obviously want to know as much as you can beforehand, but there's no video games you can play that will particularly help.

It's probably the smallest part of a long morning/afternoon of testing.

Like others have mentioned don't worry if it beeps a few times doesn't mean you fail. Like most of the tests you are not designed for you to achieve a perfect score. They are looking for speed and accuracy, but when you do make a mistake it's about how well you recover and get back on track. So just stay calm and dont panic.. give it your best shot toy should be fine. There's no real way to practice just know what to expect and show them that you can work under pressure.

As for the memory test with the images you can practise with your own images. Print some off and get someone to flash them up to you for a couple of seconds and have a checklist for you to tick off what you saw. Wots be useful to use images of roads/streets that sort of thing as that is what will be in the test (pedestrians, cyclists, road signs etc). You also practise this when your out and about driving, walkiing or even on a bus. Learn to scan what's in front of you by glancing up for a second or two and recalling the things you can see. Up down on the one left right on the other. You have to create your own diagonals

I see, so it is possible to make the ball move diagonally using both controls at the same time.
