completed 10 pts, what next ? from rhondda

Hi all, I've recently completed a drug & alcohol test, also the 10 day PTS course with track induction. I have no previous rail experience so would be a blue hat. How do I go about getting entry level work, as the companies I've contacted all say they're not taking on any blue hats . Im 26 from ferndale the rhondda, south wales and am very keen to start work asap . Any help/ideas/links etc appreciated , cheers

Hi Griffo. Well done! I'm sure someone will be along to help shortly. In the meantime, there have been a couple of similar questions recently. If you use the search facility towards the top right of the main jobs and careers page to look for, say, PTS, hopefully it may throw up a few threads.

Have a look at www.railwaypeople.com or www.indeed.com and type in track labourer. There are quite a few that come up.

OP, on the railwaypeople site there is a list of rail companies. Mcginley are looking for track inducted staff. If you're prepared to relocate you might find a home with them.

p.s. let me know how you get on. I'm going for my track induction next month.

How about Optima? They were\are looking for track inducted staff. Would you be prepared to relocate to anywhere in the country?
Work is very hard to come by at the moment I know this because I live in London and there's hardly anything here. The Crossrail project is fully staffed and some of the contractors are running out of money and laying off workers. The high speed 2 has yet to start and rail agencies like McGinley, ATA and others don't have the work but are recruiting in the hopes they'll land one of the big contracts.

It's a bit of a lottery at the moment.
