Today i made a Complaint to East Midlands about a Service they cancelled Yesterday on an Hourly Line, I have never contacted East Midlands before so i dont know what to expect, Will they want Proof that i had a Ticket for the service? Is there anything else you expect them to ask me? I have only ever complained to Northern Rail before.

Keep your tickets you will normally be asked to send them to East Midlands Trains who will then award you compensation.

With East Midlands Trains compensation works out at 50% of the fare for half and hour delay and 100% for an hour on single fares or 25% for half an hour, 50% for an hour and 100% for 2 hour hours on return tickets.

If you need to claim compensation in the future the easiest way to do it with East Midlands Trains is to fill out a Delay Repay form which the link to it is below.

One thing that's unclear with the EMT scheme is whether it only applies to EMT trains or whether it includes connections.

For instance, if a 20 minute delay to a Norwich-Liverpool service causes you to arrive 60 minutes late at your final destination are you eligible for compensation?

Yes. The delay is paid for the journey as a whole, not just the individual leg. I got a full refund recently for just an 8 minute delay at Clapham, the knock on effect being more than an hour late at Ledbury. No quibbles at all from the TOC.

I don't believe the EMT scheme is any different (or can be any different).

This isn't really a complaint though, is it?

It's a fairly routine compensation matter. A complaint is what you do only after they turn it down...
