Also, does it count if the picture is taken from the train, but doesn't actually have the train in it?

None of the competitions have to contain a train but it must be railway related. Rain doesn't count in this one.

I'm not sure regarding the rules here as heavily edited photos aren't allowed, but are HDR images allowed (three identical (apart from the exposure) images combined together)?

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be, but hold out for clarification from someone more official.

By its nature HDR requires a fair amount of post processing so can't see it being allowed to be honest.

Not really, I just put the three images in photoshop and press the HDR button and it does it all for me

Well, it doesn't really do it all for you, you have to tell it how you want it converted from a 32-bit image to an 8-bit image, and it 'can' result in a very false looking final image.

I'd disagree, I'm not a fan of HDR, and I find it often ruins a good photo.

One person I know was obsessed with HDR for a while, and his ones always looked awful.

Well, whilst we diving off topic, HDR is very specific to peoples tastes, and can vary in the extremes of how you use it. If it's used very gently it's hardly noticeable, but some majorly 'over-cook' it.

Yeah, I find that some of them are fine, but a lot I think are overdone.

This was the photo I would have submitted, it's my favourite HDR picture I've made. I don't personally think it looks bad in this case however I have taken some bad HDR pics before.

That looks fine to me, but it wouldn't have gote my vote because of the slant on the horizon

The slant was because I didn't have a tripod with me, I was using the footbridge as a support for the camera

You didn't realise that horizon was sloping while you were looking through the viewfinder!!! hock:

Should be able to correct it in Photoshop, just use the straightener tool. Although you'll lose the edges cos you'll have to crop the white bits out.

I did, I didn't think it looked too bad like that so I just took the shots as it was. The bridge is arched so there was a large angle from where I took the shot.

Aww I have a brilliant picture for this but:
a) it's not a digital photo
b) it's several hundred miles away at the moment.

It probably wouldn't have won anyway - more a personal memory thing (like all my photos) than anything else.
