I expected to see a shot of Blackfriars Bridge, and number 1 duly provided it. So, for the self-centred reason that it proved me correct, I vote 1. Mind you, it does have a classic city background.

By the way, several of those, such as 12, look a little on the naughty side to me. EDIT: Sorry; I wasn't sure about a tram shot being permissible. So never mind.

There are a couple of entries which I feel don't fit the theme this week, so instead of removing them i've allowed them through and put a note in the caption. I don't see any problem with 12 though.

To be fair, it may well say in the title "in the City" but within the thread it says "Photos in an urban area".

The entries that made an impact on me were 1, 5, 6 and 11. I like the colours in number 1 but it feels hemmed in. 5 is a nice train at a classic location and I love the framing with the power station. 6 is a good shot, nice to be different of a tube and vibrant colours. 11 gives us a flavour of Europe and some street running too. In the end I'm choosing 5 as my favourite. I didn't enter as I didn't feel I had a shot that could compete, and I think I was right.

Numbers 6 and 11 are the best for me this week. I finally going with 11 couse that is what I was expected from the competition this week

Hey? But that means that you won't have won for at least four weeks! In my time, you must have won at least half of the competitions!

Surely you're close enough to Birmingham to have been able to obtain something quick, such as a shot of trains passing over the viaducts near Curzon Street?

Nothing. Those are the piers for the original Blackfriars Railway Bridge.

This was opened by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway in 1864 and was joined by the current bridge (orignally called St Pauls Railway Bridge) in 1886. Following the concentration of intercity and international traffic on Waterloo after Grouping, traffic declined and the bridge deck became unsafe for modern trains. It was removed in 1985 leaving just the piers and abutments in situ.

Some nice shots this week and for me its between 5, 8 and 11.
I am agreeing with Murmar about 1 - I too feel it is a little hemmed in and I feel there are just too many different colours all vying for attention
5 is quite a nice shot with the power station in the background and is quite a strong contender
8 is photographically a really good shot I feel, with the way the headlights have reflected - but unfortunately there is no say as whether its an urban area as nothing is mentioned and you can't tell from the picture
11 is photographically very good - nice crisp shot. It is also an awesome example of street running - I have seen trams and German U-Bahns running on the street, but a double headed train takes it to a whole new level!
Number 11 gets my vote this week

I voted for 13 as it pleased my eyes. Would have been good for the recent panoramic shots comp too. Iliked 9 very much, but the symmetry was spoiled by the buffer end on the right, still nice though.

Thank you to Pumbaa for my first ever vote!!!!! And thank you to ????? for my second ever vote. And before anyone asks, yes, I did publically doubt the validity of my own entry. I even advised Jordy that I would do so in advance (whether he noticed is another matter), just in case he became suspicious.

And well done to Matt Taylor on a truly splendid shot. Achieving just as many votes as the next two put together is no mean feat in this competition (unless you're one mumrar I suppose )
