6 - beautiful! Although 12 was also very very good, and if it hadn't been mentioned about the moving car, don't think I would have noticed!

I liked 6, especially the reflection, but felt that the cutting off of the train to the right marred it. So I went for 17

good to see so many entries, glad the topic produced more. I'm yet to decide on voting though.

After looking at the gallery on a computer screen, I have to say that #6 has had the blue sky added in to it. There are more than enough tell tale signs of this, so not really impressed.

I wouldn't make this comment lightly, and have looked at the image very closely first.

Yeah, just have a look at the reflection of the sky in the water ;)

Well that, and the bit of overcast sky still in the top of the tall tree on the left hand side, the awful jagged edge to the skyline trees, and the lack of saturation and contrast through the whole scene, at odds with a cloudless blue sky (which would have been overexposed still anyway)

I did wonder about the sky too, but knowing nothing about photoshop and wondering how they created the tiltshift effect I ended up looking at an online guide, and saw that it recommended "posterizing" colours.

I presumed it must have been that, and that it therefore came *just* within how I understand the rules, despite that the photo has obviously been worked on quite heavily in a number of ways!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Err... I'm feeling a bit daft now. A picture that uses 122k colours doesn't have a conveniently perfect colour with an RGB of 0,163,255 for the whole sky apart from the bit around the top of the tree framing the left of the photo, and a conveniently perfect colour with an RGB of 1,126,255 for the reflection of it apart from the bit where there's a reflection that's in part a variety of much paler colours...

If it turns out there's been a misunderstanding as to the rules then I'd have gone for 17 instead...

To be honest, I hadn't noticed that much wrong with the photo to start with, it's just when Mumrar pointed it out, I decided to have a (much) closer look ....

The sky is a consistant shade all the way across, not that much of a give away, but when you look at the small patch of the sky reflected in the pool, it's a dead give away.

In the "reflection", you can see the edges of clouds on the ridge line, plus, where as the rest of the pool has (tiny) ripples on it to show the water is moving, that patch showing the sky is perfectly still, completely at odds of the reflections of the rocks either side of the patch ....

Oh, Mumrar, sorry but I won't be voting for your picture this week, as for once, I feel it isn't the best picture there.

I did contact the owner regarding 6, but they have not replied, it does seem pretty obvious that it has been edited given the opinions/evidence above, so the photo has now been disqualified.

Please do not vote for #6

If the 3 people who voted for number 6 would like to place their vote elsewhere, please PM me. Also, can the owner of #6 please reply to my PM

Cheers

No17 for me.

If you don't mind me asking, how often does this kind of thing happen? This is the first time I have seen a disqualification, although the tight rules would suggest that they could be fairly frequent.

And could I actually have a vote this week? Please? :p

Not very often, I've only known one, and that was me, because I got my temper up when people had levelled accusations of cheating at me. In fact, there was a tutorial on acceptable editing (I think that was it's name) is what resulted. The reason for the disqualification was that I revealed my entry as belonging to me while defending it.

Yeh as far as I can remember there have only been two disqualifications, I don't disqualify anything unless I really have to and would rather not!

No 6 looks compleatly dodgy to me. But Waht I was thinking of doing with my entry for next weeks entry was to insert a close up shot of the head board is that allowed or not as its not adding anything to make the picture look different just gives cletrity of what he head board displays ?

Multiple Unit, if you are simply going to crop in to the headboard to frame it better, that's perfectly allowed. However, one suspects that unless we all do the same, your entry has been somewhat given away already. You should have thought that before asking the question. If you're unsure it's better to PM Jordy so your anonymity remains intact.

I guess I shouldn't give away which photo is mine, but seeing as it's been disqualified I don't suppose it matters!

Yes, mine is number 6 ...

I've been away on holiday, that's why I haven't replied earlier.

Yes - it's edited! Sorry for breaking the rules so blatantly.

If I could offer an explanation: I've got several versions of this photo on my computer, all in various stages of being edited and all with similar filenames. I didn't intend this one for the competition, so I think I must have uploaded the wrong file.

The unedited version is below.

Understood - If you did upload the original it is a excellent pic probably a winner (would get my vote)

Thanks

What did you use to edit that?

5 minutes in Photoshop: http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p242/2007dmc122007/Untitled-1-1.jpg?t=1269143178

I wish adding skies was allowed :(

That's good, I like that.

I used the paint bucket tool in Photoshop Elements 6.0 - I know it's terrible, I haven't used it much.

Most processing I do with Canon's own software - Digitial Photo Professional to edit the RAW files.

Fair enough, thanks for explaining, in this case the one week ban will not apply

POTW Rules said:
Your photo will be disqualified from the competition and you will be banned for the next competition.

Congrats to mumrar
