Number 2 would make for an excellent caption competition

Well, for those who doubted this competition, there are actually 14 entries!

A pleasant surprise, though I suspect the discussion of the last week may have boosted the entry count somewhat!!!! Still, I've gone for number 4 which in my opinion really is a cracking shot!

Lots of great entries this week - and all a bit 'different', which is nice!

Anyway, for me it's No. 14. It's a beautiful location, and the subject of the photo - the tea break - is utterly timeless, with the 'work-in-progress' track, people walking along the seafront, and men just sitting around on the track having a chat. Yes, the clothes, materials used, and 'plant' have changed, but the subject of the photo is doubtless truly timeless.

Number 2 is comical, while number 13 really shows the work these guys(and gals) do at ungodly hours. However for me it has to be 4. Cracking photo. ;)

Strong selection of shots this week :D

Had to vote for #2 simply because I've never seen anything like it before; but what is he doing? Not waiting to be decapitated, surely?

Something rather less exciting I'm afraid...

He's looking along the head of the rail to see if there are any obvious vertical 'bumps' in it. I do it myself when doing a survey of track condition. It's a good, quick way to see if the 'top', or vertical geometry, is good.

Thanks for the votes, only just really noticed I'd won. Sorry for the delay for the new theme, Jordy has been PM'd etc so it'll be up shortly hopefully!!
