I had a real hard time trying to decide which shot to enter. Whilst I shall not reveal which entry is mine, can I ask would any of these two candidates have been worthy competitors?

Anyway I went for 12, it's what springs to mind when someone says 'railway station' to me

Well, I'd already decided I wasn;t going to vote for any shots that were just purely of trains at a station, as it shows a lack of imagination for the topic this week. So, out of the shots that gives me, I like 10. Gives a rare glimpse of the work that goes on in the small hours. But a question for when voting finishes to the photographer - Why didin't you move that plastic cup???

I agree (again) with Mumrar. But still quite a difficult choice I loved 1 and the Hendon extravaganza brought back many happy memories. But I plumped for 12. Well executed with just enough detail.

Seeing as I got the deadline wrong, I thought it was this Sunday coming - I couldn't submit anything

However, as much trouble the selection gave me for my vote, I have to go with Image 6 just because it's different to the others.

A quick note - though I do not enter this competition, I vote every week. The quality of photo entered is always hugely impressive and I would like to thank the many contributors for providing me with so much viewing pleasure.

Onto this week's competition (and the reason I began this post!) - Every week, something catches my eye and is an obvious winner. This week, I have srtuggled hard to pick my favourite from what is an excellent bunch. I may as well admit that i was choosing between 6, 8, 11 and 12. I was caught by the bleakness of photo 12 - the area being surrounded by moorland. In the end, I had to say no due to, what I percieved to be, a lack of action. This left 6, 8 and 11. 8 and 11 are both perfect in proportion - the trains taking up a quarter of the shot - whilst I was enthralled by the all action 6. Having looked at each for ages without deciding, I shamefully sought what was wrong rather than what was right. Photo 8 was therefore voted out due to the lamp post right in the middle of the frame and photo 11 also said goodbye due to the handrail in the bottom right. Photo 6, then, is my choice. I was captivated by the artistic statement, the fact that I was listening to Ian Brown at the time (lending substance to the anarchy of the photo) and the ability of the photographer to make something as uninspirational as Hendon station take on a form that is much more, as Ian Brown would say, "stellified".

4, 6 or 10 for me (although I agree about the earlier comment about the plastic cup).

In the end I've plumped for 4: Good lighting and good composition.

So, to everyone who is itching to know about that plastic cup:

When taking the photo back in 2005, I simply didn't notice it there. I took lots of photos from lots of different places at lots of different angles. Several of them came out as a blur due to the poor lighting and my simple point-and-shoot camera (no tripod either), although I did get many fantastic ones too. Thus, I was more interested in finding good places to perch the camera to avoid camera shake and just kept taking photos.

FYI I was part of the workforce - I'm one of those orange bods, and spent many hours of my Easter on Basingstoke station back then, always with the camera at the ready!

When it came to this competition and I decided to submit that photo, partly, I was in a rush to submit it (I'd had a very busy week) and didn't have too much time to look at it in great detail. I did consider cropping the photo down, partly to remove the cup or possibly even to home in on the RRV activity, but decided that the photo as it stood was a true reflection of the engineering hours. Stuff gets dumped everywhere, even on a station, and only gets tidied up (Well, most of the time it gets tidied up anyway!) in those last few hours before the public return. Thus, I decided to leave the photo exactly as it was taken, with no editing or cropping at all, and see what happened.

It is an interesting picture mate, something we don't see that often as general public.

I also love that you take your camera everywhere with you, thats great that is.

No worries MR_MOO all is fair in photo competitions gotta say it is a very good shot with something a little more different to it than the rest so im happy to wait a few more weeks for my win if it happens.
