Well considering the theme is "bridges, tunnels, viaducts and railway buildings" its highly unlikly its going to be a bridge, tunnel, viaduct or indeed mosque:roll:

Maybe the uploader missed the caption out when uploading it???

Lots of good ones this week, but No. 5 really stands out. A fabulous engine, heading the 'right' stock (in terms of authenticity, if not time period!) on a well-proportioned viaduct. The tree on left and signal on right each frame the train beautifully.

#5 is very good have to admit but I voted #10....dont laugh.....loads of stuff in there and its just an odd-bod of a photo with that signal box some vandals have placed on the bridge (with wire netting for glass protection??).......plus its a steamer!

We agree! I bet it was a great photo before all the HDR crap - now it looks like some bint from Strictly Come Dancing with so much makeup you can only guess what's underneath.

Allthough I dont want to start of the same arguments again, surely HDR falls under post processing which I though was decided was not allowed?

It is a great picture though!

Christ on a bike! I'm fed up of this crap, week in week out. It isn't HDR processed, it's called a graduated neutral density filter which helps control over-exposed skies in scenarios like this. I've previously provided information, and a tutorial for the 'have nots' but the blood letting continues. I do not have to justify my photography to anyone except myself, and maybe the wife if it's a long day out.
So, obviously I would like my photo withdrawn as I've revealed it's mine, we can then resume the battle of the backlit shots and the other well took photos. Furthermore, I shall no longer enter POTW again, you regular whiners (that's NOT D1001) are the reason I've gone to other forums. Thanks for all of the reasoned discussion I've had with the large majority of civilised forum members, as usual it's spoilt by a minority.

mumrar - I apologise if I have offended you - A while back I submitted a panning photo of a steam loco in profile travelling at 70 mph, pin sharp except for the motion being blurred - technically it was head and shoulders above all the other entries that week but it didn't win because there was an ordinary picture of an 86 or a 90 or something on a freight - whoopee. But I still enter, just for a bit of fun. I use ND Grads on my wide angle shots (well until about two months ago when I lost mine), and I have a set of Cokin ND grads on order to use on all my lenses.

Despite what you have said, your photo does still look like an HDR, even if it isn't. So, again, I apologise for upsetting you when a great photo, taken with a lot of skill, timing, choice of location etc.. gets the wrong kind of comments.

As for my comments about Strictly Come Dancing, they were over the top (I had a bottle of wine in me and had had a bad day). So, once again, I'm sorry and I ask that you reconsider - you will find much more vitriolic children on many of the other sites after all.

"Blood Letting"??? I did not actually state it WAS HDR did I. Infact I said it was a very nice picture.

Coming form experience, your telling me, that photo isnt edited, on yer bike mate....


But for the record, i voted for it non the less.


Slightly off topic, but Railway mags often state, no editing, understandable. But my criticism is that they edit them themselves if they feel the need. Personally i dont mind editing, even though at the begining i snarled at editingm i've learnt to live with it, but rarely edit railway shots.

Sorry for the rant.
