I've gone for number 3. A good combination, cracking location and weather too. A very good set of pictures to choose from. Still not sure if I've picked the right one but we'll see how the voting goes

I do like #1 in a odd-ball type of lucky shot but for 'charm' and authentic atmosphere its #6 that get my vote. Everything is there from a branch line in 1958........well done 9.9 / 10!!

Hmm...tricky! 2, 3, and 9 are all pretty excellent.

9, obviously takes away the 'arty' crown, and it is hugely successful - great to look at!
Both 2 and 3 have a real authenticity to them - they could almost have been taken in steam days. In fact, No. 2 could have been, and the only limiting factor for No. 3 is the difference in time period of the locos. BR late crest for the Manor and GWR livery for the Dukedog - but that is real nitpicking!

Anyway, in the end No. 2 clinches it. The goregous sky, uninterrupted view of the train and sheer sensation of speed (which the steam drifting from below the cab heightens more than anything) are wonderful. Great engine, too!

Hey if Mike Oldfield can live off tubular bells, I've got to get my mileage out of it. It only won by two votes so it can't be that great.

Thanks for those kind comments,at least someone liked it as much as i did.....

Nice on Mumrar,as much as i don't particularly like your shot,as good as it is (extremely good quality and well composed etc etc) i just think steam should be shown 'in action'. As for my shot,i chose that location specifically because i knew there was nothing modern to bugger it up and the fact i could get the loco and pretty much all the train in. That was the day they smashed a 42 year old record between Leeds and Copmanthorpe (Outskirts of York) (21 mins 35 secs) a record last held by 70035 in 1967!! And to think a 185 does it in 27 mins you can see how well it did!! 50 odd years of technology splits the designs yet a unit almost (bet it by about 1 min) is slower than a 1950's steam design! A Britannia,11 or 12 coaches vs a 185 with 3 that is wedged. H'mm How can they explain this one then!?

Well, that's a matter of opinion - there were some great shots in that competition but yours was outside the box, superbly executed, imaginative, and that's why it was a deserved winner.

I'd say the camera and loco are on a turntable taken with a slow shutter speed.

Congrats mumrar it is a great shot.

Exactly right, camera and tripod on timed shutter release taking a trip on the turntable. Manual exposure of ISO 100, 30s f/22. I had to use a polariser and an ND8 filter to reduce the daylight enough to get this long shutter speed, which is what provides enough background blur to make the shot. Of course, once the turntable started I couldn't make any alterations and I only had one attempt to get it right. Thanks for all the kind comments

Fantastic stuff! I would love a camera that can do the works but they are quite expensive for me
