So easy to choose this week, and I did expect quite a few more entries to be honest. I'm still yet to get a good shot with a rape seed field, but my vote goes to someone who succeeded with No. 2

What a pic of a 60 needs is the sense of brute force that they put across. Nice though most of these are, I think the only one that approaches this is #1

This is only said in jest, but how much brute force is needed to shift a load of empty tanks? Isn't the weight about 30% of the fully laden weight?? Whereas some of the shots show fully loaded freights. That's the key to a 60s brute force, they do so without the drama or appearance.

Accepted - but that means the photographer has to use more artistic aspects to enhance the impression.

Number 3 was nice for a bit of something different, number 2 I detest due to the darn rapeseed. I cannot, just cannot, stand that stuff.

My vote goes to number 1. Empty tanks or not, I like it. Most of my memories of 60s are on the Robeston to Westerleigh tanks, so this is the sort of shot I like to see.

Difficult choice this week, #1 excellent with the tree colour in background and a sense of power (I concur with Oswyntail), #3 technically excellent with clarity and detail. However my choice is #8, colour everywhere.....and a rainbow.....as a bonus. #8 for me!

That is a very odd statement to make! Not the fact that you "detest" rapeseed, I can fully understand that...but the fact you dont like the picture becuase of it.

1. The curvature of the tracks and sharpness of the image make it. The light of the signal and haze of the exhaust are somehow evocative. The lack of sun, unusually, seems to add to the picture rather than detract from it.

2 seems obvious, and rather easy to get right. But the sun is about 10 degrees too far round.

Is it though? The front of the train is not fully lit, the train is heading south, and I was always led to believe the sun goes clockwise, so it's 10 degrees not far enough surely?

Actually, I find the sun's angle gives the loco an impressive 3rd dimension by highlighting the angular bodywork. Actually, I'm sure Kryten (Red Dwarf) uses a chat up line on a female android very similar to that ...

I live and work in the Farnborough-Reading-Newbury triangle and the direction of the sunlight on the tracks nearest me has always caused me problems - most steam excursions emanate from London in the morning so have the sun 3/4 behind them. The Colas steel train has a nicely illuminated last wagon, but the 47's remain obstinately in the shade because, by that time of day, the sun has moved round. Oh, the trials and tribulations of the enthusiast photographer!

I should apologise for my post not being clear. Rapeseed is just one thing I cannot stand. The pollen drives my nose, eyes and throat crazy and I don't like the look of it either.

As I don't like the look of it, photos with it in just don't appeal to me!

Tricky this week! 1, 2, and 8 all excellent - with most of the others not far behind.

I'm going to go for No. 2 though. It's a lovely shot - I particularly like the background landscape. A difficult choice, nevertheless!
