Pre and post reburb Feel free to go for older pictures back in Virgin and Intercity days though, along with the XC refurbs :)

Apologies for the delay, this was due to waiting for the winner to select the next theme.

Entries by 1900 next Monday please

Cheers

Jordy

That's a rather restrictive theme, isn't it?

As I said some time ago, if I'm ever fortunate enough to win this competition I'm going to choose "rolling stock of the North Sunderland Railway" as my theme! :) :)

Yet again, I'm out. Maybe people should bear in mind that some of us have only recently taken to railway photography, and therefore are excluded from these sorts of themes. Not a happy (Easter) bunny:cry:

I'm not a happy Easter bunny either, minette...

...but here's one that is!

Sorry if you don't like the theme, I might set up an Easter Special competition if you're lucky ;)

Phew, thank you! I now have a good reason to take the kids trainspotting tomorrow! Still a bit unfortunate for those who live away from XC routes - although at least they don't have to put up with the excuse for a service!:D

If you're so bothered, just get yourself out in the next few days, you've still got chance. I seem to remember having complaints from moaners when I chose Network SouthEast livery for being 'too restrictive', despite the fact that there was still stuff about in that colour and it had been about for over 20 years and been seen from Penzance to Inverness!

I think if you follow the thread from the beginning you'll find that the complaints about a restrictive choice were made when the subject was a lot more narrow than it is now.Quite a few people on here that I know have only taken up an interest in the last year or so - I guess that makes it kind of difficult to produce pictures of stuff from years ago.
Moaners are only people expressing an opinion that differs from your own - now who said that - and who cares anyway.

Hmm, got plenty and plenty of photos on the home PC, will be yet another scour of my flash drive and Photobucket for possible entries.

Shame I therefore won't be able to enter my photo of 43007+184 at Glasgow Central. Still, bound to find some other photos about the place!

Nice of you to choose a HST-related theme btw Liam, gives me more chance to enter! :D:lol:

EDIT at 00:37 local time :p

Hmm, didn't notice that about Virgin and Intercity XC HSTs before, however I doubt I've any Virgin ones that aren't VWC anyway.

Nevertheless, after a quick consultation and photography discussion with the two good sirs here, I have made my choice and will be uploading it after I do this post.

Must say I anxiously await the entries from everyone else!

Looking at the comments such as That's a rather restrictive theme, isn't it? and Maybe people should bear in mind that some of us have only recently taken to railway photography, and therefore are excluded from these sorts of themes I would say that they refer to this theme.

Does that mean themes covering the past should be excluded just because a few people didn't bother to take pictures X years ago? If so, should themes covering recent events also not be included, as this prevents those who don't bother going out any more from entering? People need to accept they may not have shots covering every single theme that is chosen.

Yes, fine, I accepted that last week - but how often are those of us who had no decent camera until recently to be excluded? There are, after all, plenty of more open themes that can be chosen - how about, simply, HSTs. We also have a number of younger people on here - from my lofty age of 37! How on earth are they supposed to enter anything from years ago? My son is interested in joining - I won't let him cos his photos aren't up to it yet:D - but at the age of 12 he hasn't a chance if the subject is more than about 6 months ago.
Worth thinking about people - we all have our limitations, whether it be time, age or geography - and surely we can be big enough to include the majority rather than exclude them?

I think that theblackwatch needs to pay more attention to the written word here - the quotes that he's using refer to the original theme and not the amended one.If you can understand that you'll see that they are fair comments. Most of the rest of the post is just silly.
Perhaps he can enlighten us as to where the line is drawn,or not drawn ??
Is the choice made by the winner to stand or not stand ???

Oh well thats me out again. Its all right if you are near that area but I believe, like last week, that these trains were, and are, nowhere near where I live in Essex. Getting bored with this competition cause I cant get any photos to enter.

Of course, we could always wait our turn - it's bound to come up eventually surely? - and in our turn, restrict the theme for others! Very tempting idea I must say - although as I live in Gloucester whatever you choose will probably be out for me, and vice versa:D

Here's hoping for a more open theme next week - and of course there's still Jordy's bonus competition we can try for - many thanks Jordy!

I agree with theblackwatch, not every week you will have a photo to choose from and enter. Not even the most seasoned traveller and photter in the last 5 years (myself for example) will be able to do so, and I've travelled all over the place with every TOC/OAC!

I have gone for a fairly open theme myself with my entry for both POTW 314 and SC 005. Of course, I'm not expecting to win so it probably won't matter!

Either way, I do enjoy going through the huge amount of photos I've got for each week's theme as it gives you a chance to go through photos you don't look at often (like I did for SC 005 for example).

I tell you what, if ever I win another I'll pick Gloucester Station as a theme, will that do?

To please ladysue, you'd be better picking Essex - and as I managed to get an entry for this, and she didn't, I think it's her turn next! :D Thanks for the thought though guys!

Thanks Minette. Us ladies need to stick together on here as we are such a minority. I never mind not winning but enjoy entering when I can.

Perhaps it would be an idea to have two competitions running parrallel? One being the normal themed competition, the other being an "open" competition like the current Easter free for all?

Best of both worlds then.

Cor, just imagine the extra hassle for the moderators - not to mention the confusion for the rest of us: have I entered into competition 1? or 2? or was that last week?
It'd certainly show who's organised among us - I get the feeling there'd be very few entries from yours truly cos I'd forget what I'd entered, when, and where!:D

Stick the word "Open" in the title of the open comps and I cant really see there being a massive amount of confusion....eg,

"OPEN" Competition:: 004
Competition 314:: XC HSTs

Take your point about extra work for the mods though.

Just an idea.

I might just run more frequent special competitions with free for all themes, sometimes there might even be prizes if I can find anything! ;)
