Just a quick query - why do people feel the need to announce which photo's getting their vote? I've noticed that some weeks no-one tells, other weeks (like this week) there's loads - and quite often doing the sheep thing - so-and-so's voted for x, so I will too!
I'm not trying to start an argument, I genuinely want to know. Please excuse my ignorance...

I must agree - it makes a mockery of hiding the results during the week, if everyone's going to discuss how they've voted anyway!

I for one rarely contribute to this discussion for that very reason.

I'll just re-iterate the comments I made about people voting for traction.

(No offence intended here by the way)

Once again, a picture showing class 37s has won POTW. While Mumrar's entry is good, in my opinion, it's just another bog standard, full sun 3/4 shot.

However, when I did see the entries, I did expect a picture of a 37 to win, and that was Craig's entry (which I voted for). This showed a lot more detail as well as the added bonus(!) of a small fire.

Perhaps it's because the 37s were more "in your face" in Mumrar's photo, but for this competition, I definatelt feel as though the best photo didn't win.

I take no offence, as I hope the voters don't, but of course you will feel as though the best photo didn't win, because your vote represents your opinion. The point of a group of votes is not to find out everyones opinion to the best shot, but to find out what the groups overall belief is the best shot.

People vote for many photos for differing reasons, the most astonishing to me was the following

number 9 for me

Why you would pick a shot of the same train as number 7, from a closer in crop without all of the train showing, and with the sun on the wrong side whereas it was spot on in number 7, really baffled me when I first read it.

However we have to be careful that the new constructive criticism doesn't now mean questioning everyones votes or their intentions with their votes, by intimating that the only reason a photo wins is because of X Y and Z (Tornado surely to be the next excuse when it first wins a vote!)
