As usual a couple of issues with some of the posts. Firstly local reps arent paid they get time off to man offices but on the whole they recieve no financial benefit for doing the job. The reason we can wear a union tie is because our contracts and terms and conditions say we can ( end of.) If they said we couldnt we wouldnt simple really.
As far as the certain Northern guard with the axe to grind against aslef maybe he should look a little closer to home and tell Mr Crow to stop calling a strike over every little incident. All that does is make the management train up replacements so a guards strike becomes pretty much irrelevant.
As an ex-guard and now a driver believe me Drivers have the much harder job overall. If a guard is tired one morning he just doesnt bother doing tickets. He gets an irrate passenger back to the backcab to never be seen again. My old guards inspector always told me you make a guards job as easy or as hard as you like its down to you.
A driver spends 10 hrs a day concentrating ensuring he and the train are safe. That includes right route linespeed potential collsion oh lets not forget that blackbox that will tell tales if he makes a slight mistake.
A guard has an important job to do and i personally would never advocate DOO i dont care how much they offer me.
A simple conclusion we wear union ties to remind passengers Managers and non union members that without our unions all us railworkers would be on minimum wage with conditions that would make North Korea think it was onto a good deal.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
