This could be interesting and useful if the boxsets are stored (as data) on the trains*, not sure I see the point if they have to stream them over the existing 4G network.

* I've just read the info on the find out more page and it says it is stored on the train.

If anything like the systems offered for buses and coaches, you can probably get it for free depending how large an audience for the content you can offer. It's all about about an audience for the ads that will be geo-inserted.

I think it has been a DfT requirement recently.

If its just server based then its been around for years now but it has to be paid for and if an ad at the start of a programme occurs then thats fine with me as i dont remember VTWC Beam having any planted halfway through their videos

Most of the long distance TOCs have had this for a year or two now. It’s a hard drive attached to the WiFi distribution point (router or whatever the train uses). Very similar to WD My Cloud for your home which I use to stream music, films etc. Very easy to install and about the price of an industrial strength hard drive per train plus whatever royalties they have to pay out.
