In an IT context a method is a process to do one thing (it's a term for a non-value-returning function in an object oriented programming language) but a methodology is a set of processes for doing something, e.g. the object-oriented development methodology as a whole.
Should have guessed that the snake oil salesmen would have hjacked something from the hi-tech world to misuse for their own self-aggrandisement!

Influencers, sure. Leave decent YouTubers alone though, I almost exclusively watch their content instead of actual tv.

The problem with "You Tubers" is that a lot of it is a load of old rubbish, and it isn't always easy to spot the good stuff.

And I always find someone good just as they run out of decent material (but of course still keep churning out the quantity as they need the ad revenue).

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.

This is why it's important to manage your subscriptions. I tend to have a 'one in, one out' rule with my subscriptions as there is only so much free time during any given week in which to watch stuff. Also as hated as the YT algorithm is, it really does learn about your tastes over time and it minimises the chances of you being served absolute dreck.

Back on topic but definitely related, YTers urging 'smash that like button'. Sod off. I'll make that decision, not you.

Absolutely agreed on those who urge people to subscribe and attempt to make you feel bad for not doing it. Going on about how it's free so no reason not to, blah blah blah. Some people do it with style, Jago Hazzard is a good example of a YouTuber who asks people to subscribe/like the video well. Film Insight is an example of one that doesn't, and I'm happily not watching his videos now after he started almost begging people to subscribe in each video.

Agreed on the idea of removing 'dead wood' from the subscribed channels, I recently did that with Londonist for just one good example. Replaced very happily with Steve Marsh's enjoyable videos, some of which have inspired me to do some adventuring in Scotland in places I'd never even considered going to.

Spammers who fill three entire pages of the UK Railway Discussion with unsolicited threads. I mean how has this been able to happen for 2 days in a row now??

I reported this both today and yesterday.

I wonder whether the forum has the ability to put all newly created accounts on moderation, or to temporarily pause the creation of new accounts.

It's a mystery to me why people bother to do this.

Do they get some perverse kick out of this, and if so they must be real saddos.

I wonder if forums such as this one present a suitable "testing ground" for spambots. I'd certainly be extremely surprised if all those spam posts were actually manually posted by a real human being.

Wonder whether we'll have another torrent of unwanted spam in the "wee small hours" this morning?

Yes, and in three separate sub forums this morning. <(<(

It only seems to happen in the early hours of the morning UK time.

It was a constant problem on TripAdvisor a few years ago.

‘How did we do’ emails.
Picked up my repeat prescription from the chemist yesterday. This morning an email arrived asking to rate their service. Had a similar one from the doctors last week after having a blood test.

At least they asked after you had got it. I often get such surveys immediately after placing an on-line order.

I would ban so called "..satisfaction surveys.." from the Royal Mail when they pretend to have "resolved" your query, when in fact they haven't. <(<(<(

The use of the word "So" at the start of an answer to a question, it has rapidly grown to become the normal way to answer questions lately and also extremely irritating.
I’ve noticed that some people even start with an unnecessary ‘so’ on this forum. If there was a forum administrator in charge of spelling, grammar and punctuation they’d really have their work cut out.

Unneccessary to whom? I think y'all should stop getting so hung up about how some folks wish to express themselves.

Can they start on fewer/less please?

So, I can't help feeling that less posts on grammar pedandtry would be a bit more comedic

Companys/organisations that spout " Lessons have been learned " after being found liable for some tragedy or another,I know that improvements are often instigated after some tragic event but too often it seems a shallow and callous offering to appease folk who have suffered through incompetence or neglect !

I sometimes like to be a pedant - and sometimes not....depending on what sort of a mood I'm in and whether the wife is talking to me or not! <D

A few typically annoying corporate nothings:

“Your call is very important to us” (= nah it isn’t, stay on hold and we’ll answer you when we want)

“We are experiencing unusually high call volumes” (= At the very beginning of the day: we haven’t had our morning cup of tea yet. At the very end of the day: we’re just killing time before going home)

“We take complaints very seriously” (= we don’t)

“We’ve launched an immediate investigation” (= we love moaning about how annoying the person/thing is)

“We’re unable to comment on…” (= we’ve screwed up so we’re covering our backs)

Unless you've actually experienced working in such an environment, you have no idea.

At the beginning of the day: "The company didn't think there would be as much demand, so they didn't provide enough bums on seats to deal with it."

At the end of the day: "The company didn't think there would be as much demand, so they didn't provide enough bums on seats to deal with it."

The idea that staff are just killing time before they go home is absolutely ridiculous. In actual fact, some of those staff will be looking at the boards and the number of calls waiting while thinking "do I take another one before I knock off and risk being stuck with a difficult call that I won't be paid any extra for and could potentially miss my bus/train home with no other means to get back other than forking out for an expensive taxi out of my meagre wage?"

Please think before making such silly assumptions.

Oh it was to bring some a little humour to something which actually really grates on me - from seeing it with my own eyes in an earlier part of my career. So, yes I do very much have an idea. I have worked in such environments before; so I know exactly what I am talking about.

At the beginning of the day, the amount of staff who were in the kitchenette having a cuppa was ridiculous when, in fact, the phone lines had opened to customers. As for the end of the day, said staff were waiting by the clock in/out machines at 4:58/4:59pm - ie before the phone lines closed at 5:00pm.

So I have not made “silly assumptions” when, actually, I have direct experience of such a work environment. I appreciate that many workplaces are exactly as you describe; however, my past work experience shows that, conversely, there are examples of customer care teams which don’t actually care.

Agreed with both of you there, calling it St Paddy's Day is just childish and incredibly silly. It was also such a big event here (please note, mucho sarcasm) that I didn't even notice it. Only when it was mentioned on this thread did I realise it's been and gone!

@GusB Yes I agree with you mostly, it's not hugely different in my workplace. If you want anything, especially anything important, then absolutely do not ask for it between 1645 and 1800 on the average day. Similarly at the beginning and end of the day, and at a handful of other strategically important times of day. That's all I'll say on the matter!
