They are totally relevant to the issue of acquiring coin of the realm, which is not disappearing anytime in the lifetime of anyone on this forum (unlike bitcoin, which won't make it much beyond 2030, if that.)

Didn’t know cashpoints dispensed coins!

if you just need a coin, then pay by card at the supermarket and ask for a small amount of cashback ;)

Coin of the realm is an idiom for the legal money of a country, as I was taught at primary school, but hey-ho...

Tesco have stopped doing cashback at almost all of their stores, so no doubt it will start a trend.

I‘d just ban cashpoint machines. Completely irrelevant. To use one, you need a card. Just use your card instead of cash!

Whilst you can use a card for most transactions these days, there are several reasons whilst people might want to use cash, as discussed in the other thread on this forum.

My shop is almost non-cashback too, the main checkouts used to be the primary place to do it but now it is just a small number of self-service checkouts which do. I definitely suspect plenty of other places will soon be the same.

Cashback was a way for businesses to avoid bank and secure transport charges by allowing customers to withdraw it instead, which costs nothing. If hardly any cash is spent there won't be a reliable stock of notes (nor much in the way of bank charges) so the service is likely to disappear.

People who ring immediately again because I was so busy being busy I didn't decline their call and they're unsure if I'm busy so best ring again to check

People who can, but don't, answer their mobile phone when it rings.

Answer it or decline the call, please.

I do that all the time; however by pressing one of the volume keys on the side of my iPhone it silences the ringer, so it doesn't disturb me (or anyone else!), but the person calling isn't aware that you've seen their incoming call (if you decline it then it's pretty obvious to most).

Strictly come dancing

Ooh, you're leaning against an open door with me on that one. (as the late, great and very much missed Sir Terry Wogan used to say)

If you admit to not liking this programme, you are something of a social pariah these days.

Can we add the following programmes to the list for banning.
  • any programme who title starts with "The Great British...." (e.g. "Bake Off", "Sewing Bee" etc)
  • any programme where the trail includes the phrase "..celebrities compete.."
  • all so called "reality" TV shows
  • any programme who title starts with "The Real Housewives Of.... " ("real housewives"? - do me a favour)

It's the way the BBC assume everyone totally loves it winds me up.

True enough, but my shop handles plenty of notes on a daily basis, quiet or not, so it's not really an issue. I can see why they'd get rid of cashback, it surprises me how often people ask for it though.

Thoroughly agreed there on all counts. Thankfully GBBO seems to have lost a lot of appeal amongst those I work with, it hardly gets mentioned now :D

On the convenience point, customers who ring up to book something in but you can't because you're busy.

Then they turn up at your unit at the slot they wanted anyway to 'see if you're about'

Of course I'm about, I'm doing work. Other work. Sometimes it's not work at all but stuff I have to do like, erm, clean the place.

It's like 'haha I caught you, you cheeky rascal you're free after all!'

Oh and people that are early. I had one last sunday booked them in for 9 (usually open late on sundays but he was depserate) and at 8 had the phonecall 'im outside mate'

Well I'm at home, I'll be along in time to be opening doors at 9. If you can't be on time at least be polite by being slightly late.

I do the same with my iPhone. There are times I do the same.

One of my colleagues just lets it go to voicemail. Loudly.

Not particularly helpful when I'm trying to speak to a customer.

Of course it is.

However, some of us don't want to listen to someone's phone ringing until the caller hangs up or it goes to voicemail. :)

I have an agreement with some people that if I ring twice, it’s urgent so pick it up!

Not being able to top up your phone credit from a cash machine anymore. I remember this was withdrawn in around June 2019, having been introduced just a few years previously: unaware I spent a frantic half-hour trying to do it in the vicinity of Clapham Junction (trying multiple cash machines, none of which had the option) and with a flight to catch at Gatwick.

Why? It was the most convenient way to do it.

Mobile phone company websites, to me, are well known for being difficult to use - and, ironically - non mobile friendly!

Don’t tut and make passive aggressive comments when there’s someone sitting in the front seats of the DLR, just because your children want to sit there. “Pretending to drive the train” appeals to kids of all ages, even overgrown ones who actually drive trains for a living. <D
Inspired by this quote in the "unwritten railway etiquette as a passenger" thread...

People who tut and make passive aggressive comments at someone sitting in a front seat or standing at the front of a crowd just because your children want to stand/sit there and have the grandstand view. If you do that to me, you won't just not get the view for your children, you'll also get an absolute earful, and I think the majority of the population are the same
The sad irony about such people is that, if they asked nicely and politely, and didn't tut, make passive aggressive comments, force a space, etc., they'd be a thousand times more likely to have their request granted, and that's what really gets my goat.
I'm not sure whether I've ranted about such people before so please forgive me if I have!

I didn't realise that had been withdrawn, I used to do it that way too.

I don't know whether it applies to all operators, but with Three, you can top up £10, £15 or £20 using any bank card with an automated phone call (dial 444 and follow the prompts). Or if you're concerned about card security, buy a top-up voucher from a suitable shop, you can even still pay with cash that way!

Can we ban people (mostly Americans) who wrongly use the word "ancestor" when they mean "descendant"? They're literally opposites.

Can we ban people who are in charge of 4 way temporary traffic lights that are used for roadworks from going away for the weekend and leaving the lights such that they are stuck on Red.

With the consequence that the bus I am on is delayed for ages because no-one realises that the lights are stuck on Red. <(<(<(

Yes, we absolutely can. Especially if they aren't set up efficiently so that even when working "as designed" they cause enormous tailbacks.

Oh yes! I'll add this:

Traffic lights anywhere, permanent or not, that do not change for cyclists. That gets on my wick!
On a similar note, pedestrian crossings that take so long to change that by the time they do there's already been a big enough gap that any waiting pedestrians have already crossed, leaving drivers stopped for no reason.

Minicabs and minicab drivers. The standard of driving is terrible and they think they can stop anywhere regardless of obstruction caused.

Black taxis stopping in bus lanes unless the passenger is disabled and cannot walk from a more sensible place.
