Combining zonal tickets

I’m having a fight online (where else!?) with someone who is insisting that you can’t travel London zones 2-5 if you have 2 tickets, a zone 2-3 and a zone 4-5, essentially saying that you must also have a 3-4 card. I remember a forum member (Possibly Yorkie?) having this issue and sorting it out to his satisfaction. Does anyone have a link that shows that a 2-3 and a 4-5 is sufficient?

No link as such, but there is no gap between London zones so it's definitely valid. Indeed you can buy two separate travelcard seasons on Oyster and they don't need to overlap, they just need to cover all the zones required.

If you have a ticket covering zones 2 & 3 and another covering zones 4 & 5 even the dimmest should able to grasp that you are covered for zones 2, 3, 4 & 5.

Is the person you are engaging with a railway official acting in an official capacity ? If so, escalate the matter or make a formal complaint. If it is just some random person on the internet, probably best to ignore them.

You are right.
Zonal season Ticket fare rule is slightly different from ordinary season ticket rule (which no gaps in named stations is allowed).
