NRCOC says that if you are traveling on a combination of tickets, and the train does not stop where you switch tickets, that it is still valid if:
19.(c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/are not.
Does anyone know if this would include a rover?

Didn't Barry Doe specifically state on several occasions that it was agreed that a Rover is legally a 'Season Ticket'?

ADDITION:
19. Using a combination of tickets
You may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover the entire journey and one of the following applies:

(a) they are both Zonal Tickets (unless special conditions prohibit their use);
(b) the train you are in calls at the station where you change from one ticket to another; or
(c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/are not.

You must comply with any restriction shown on the tickets relating to travel in the trains of a particular Train Company or Train Companies (see Condition 10). If you do not comply with this Condition, you will be treated as having joined the train without a ticket and the relevant parts of Condition 2 or 4 will apply, either to the entire journey, or from the last station where the train stopped at which at least one of the tickets was valid.

For the purposes of this Condition, a “leisure travel pass” means any multi-journey ticket (excluding Season Tickets) valid for:

(i) at least 7 consecutive days; or
(ii) at least 3 days in a period of at least 7 consecutive days

and includes rover tickets, travel passes, flexipass tickets and BritRail passes.

So if I buy a day SPT rover, valid to Motherwell
If I travel to Preston later that day, then I need only buy the Motherwell to Preston ticket, even if the train does not stop at Motherwell?

No as the only SPT rovers available are the Glasgow Roundabout and SPT Daytripper and both of these are valid for ONE day only.

NRCOC states the following:
For the purposes of this Condition, a “leisure travel pass” means any multi-journey ticket (excluding Season Tickets) valid for:

(i) at least 7 consecutive days; or
(ii) at least 3 days in a period of at least 7 consecutive days

They are neither valid for 7 days or 3 days in 7.

Isn't the Glasgow Roundabout, albeit valid for one day only, classed as a rover though?

Well, I asked because Swindon is one of the most easterly limits of the rover on FGW's mainlines (Westbury being the other), so as the ticket to Swindon would cover you to the boundary I shouldn't think it would make much difference.

A lot of Rovers arent valid until after 9 in the morning (and end at midnight), so you probably couldnt get on the sleeper.

Indeed, I was thinking of a Friday night/Sat morn bash on the sleeper for the pure reason of the time restrictions.

I forgot there were no restrictions on weekends! whenever I do rovers I leave out weekends as the timetable usually gets screwed up by engineering works. and football fans crowding onto trains

Let me seek your interpretation on this one then.

I have an FCC Staff Travel Pass (which I suppose is a multi-journey ticket which is valid for at least 7 consecutive days), one of the facilites of said pass in free NXEC travel KGX-NNG.

Now, if I am travelling home to Newcastle, and I buy a ticket Newark Northgate - Newcastle, am I valid if I travel on the 15:00 which IIRC is first stop York?

On a completely seperate issue, say I had a Zone 6 Oyster Weekly Travel Card and I wanted to go to Stevenage, theoretically do I only need to buy a Hadley Wood - Stevenage ticket? In that example, would NXEC be bound to honour that combination given that they have no way to determine that what I hold is not a blank Oyster?

as for the FCC pass, if it counts as a season, yes! but if they don't make it clear if it counts as a season check with NXEC.

regarding the oyster thing - that's an issue for NXEC and none of your concern. if they don't want to take your word for it then they need to invest in readers! if they don't want to invest in readers then they must accept it. im sure the rude and unknowledgable guard I encountered based at edinburgh would moan and threaten you though ;)

There is a rule (can't remember the exact wording sorry) something along the lines of extension tickets to London Travelcards are not valid on the services of operators who do not stop within the London fare zones - apart from the London terminal station, obviously :D

This would rule out using combination of Boundary Zone tickets with Travelcards on NX East Coast, EMT, Virgin, and Gatwick Express. I'm not sure if the rule applies to NX East Anglia or FGW though, as they are now mixed local/intercity franchises. Following on from that however the logical conclusion would be that those operators wouldn't need Oyster readers because no ticket issued on Oyster would be valid on their services.

However, if you've got a rail-only point-to-point season from (e.g.) London Terminals to Hadley Wood, then yes, it would be valid in combination with a Hadley Wood to Newark, Newcastle, York etc ticket. Being a rail-only season it would be issued only by a National Rail ticket office on standard paper ticket stock and could not be issued on Oyster.

I may have left out some crucial point though! ;)
