Just a quick one - one day travelcard (z1-6), and a cdr from coulsdon sth. to Brighton. Would this be valid from Victoria on the Gatwick express to Brighton (first stop Gatwick), under nrcot sect. 14.3? Or if not, a thameslink service from London Bridge ?

Yes, it would be valid as a combination on either of those services.

Does the train used by the OP actually have to pass through Coulsdon South? Anything pathed on the so-called 'Quarry Line' (thus also avoiding Merstham and Redhill stations) won't run through Coulsdon South station.

In my experience, GTR staff will show discretion for tickets from Zone 6 to outboundary stations in combination with a Travelcard.

Pricing is the same from Coulsdon South to Brighton as it is from East Croydon. In fact, if the OP is travelling at the weekend, they're being ripped off as Super Off-peak tickets exist from East Croydon to Brighton, too.

If OP hasn't bought their tickets yet, I'd recommend going from ECR, but it's unlikely they'll have issues using a ticket from CDS in combination with their Travelcard in reality.

Thanks @MrJeeves . Yes I did spot that earlier, it's only 9.55 for a sop rtn from ECR with nse card. My only concern there would be the "the last station at which one Ticket is valid and the first station that the other Ticket is valid are the same" clause in 14.3, though it sounds daft me if this is imperative, as the ticket combination still covers the whole journey regardless of any overlap?

Every train from Victoria (except GatEx) and London Bridge towards Brighton will stop at East Croydon, so it could just be considered a standard split instead.

If this causes enough concern for you, standard Boundary Zone tickets are also available for this journey, but not as Super Off-peak tickets.

I honestly wouldn't expect issues, even on GatEx, using a combination of Z1-6 + ECR-BTN, personally, but I understand it's not technically permitted under the NRCoT's wording.

Thanks for the advice, took TL in the end on the outward, which is valid in any case.

One could also argue the rear declass 700 is more comfortable than GatEx ironing boards anyway.

Edit:
Just for completeness, I took the GatEx on the return journey (not stopping at ECR), gtr staff member on board checked my tickets, and was absolutely fine with the BTN-ECR + Z1-6 TC combo.

Just to confirm it is valid, and I agree the ticket is best bought from ECR rather than CDS.
