Hi folks,
I'm travelling to notts/derby area by rail on 21 July.
I'm looking for some kind advice on whether the locos at Colwick TMD are visible from public areas. And whether it's worth a specific visit.
Thanks for your help.
Stewart

If you mean the depot at the east ernd of Nottingham station, that's Eastcroft - I can't locate one at Colwick itself?

You *might* get a view from the A612 road bridge; the parapet seems low enough - and from a car park for a Virgin Active gym opposite on the other side of the line, depending on how much the vegetation has grown this year.

Morning Peter,
Thanks for response. I'm referring to the new facility built by Boden Engineering in the last 18 months primarily to service the Colas fleet. I'm not sure it's on Google maps yet.

Type in “Boden Rail Colwick“ into YouTube and you will see drone footage of the facility. I doubt a visit would be successful.

Ahh... in that case, I have no idea I'm afraid. Haven't even seen anything about that in the railway press yet...

Hi,
I've not been to that area for quite a few years but there's little nearby that's high, such as a bridge or a hill, that will give you a view into the facility.

However, do check out the local Ordnance Survey maps:
Bing OS Map

This seems to show there's a public footpath crossing the tracks just south of the site. I've no idea if this path is open and accessible or if you can actually see anything.
If you're driving you could park in the Colwick Retail Park and it's less than a mile's walk. If you're on the train it seems to be about a mile each way to / from Netherfield station.

EDIT:
Bing seems to be messing about with OS maps links (again!) so here's a screenshot:

Thanks Mr Toad, that looks very useful. I'll have a wander down there and see what I can find.
