Hi all

Maybe off to the West of Germany in 7 weeks. Bahn.De says there is no fare for Koln to Monchengladbach,

I'm hoping to go to the football at Monchengladbach, if I decide to do this trip (trying to do 3 days away for £250 and 4 football matches:lol:). The whole thing relies on me getting a ticket to the football there! I understand a match ticket would cover travel in the VRR zone.

Just wouldn't mind knowing how much I'd be paying for Cologne to Monchengladbach return, minus the VRR zone :?

Any help much appreciated

Regional trips in Germany are usually priced by the regional transport association, as the pricing is usually zone to zone, meaning you can use buses and trams at each end at no extra cost.

The journey planner at

http://busse-und-bahnen.nrw.de/fahrplanauskunft/

shows that the trip is 'Preisstufe 5' (Regioticket), which costs €10.80

Not sure how this ties up with the free travel with the match ticket, though.

I was in the area for similar reasons in October and used the Schöner Tag ticket as I wanted to do a bit of travelling around. I'll be interested to see how you get on with Borussia Mönchengladbach match tickets as that's my next target. It looks easy enough to book (except for matches against Dortmund and München) but they don't say if they will send tickets overseas.

If you are in possession of a ticket that entitles you to free travel on the VRR network you just need to buy a ticket from Cologne to Rommerskirchen. According to the VRS site it is a RegioTicket for zone 3 and costs €4.80. As you can see from the network maps of the VRS and the VRR. Rommerskirchen lies in the overlap between the two networks and is the closest station from Cologne on the line to Mönchengladbach.
