Collecting tickets when designated ticket machine is OOU

Hello everyone,

I've booked an AP single from Southampton Central to Birmingham New Street for 29 August. I've selected Romsey as the station where I will collect my tickets from since it's the most convenient station for me, especially since I'll be changing trains at Southampton Central and don't want to miss my booked train if the connecting service from Romsey isn't running late.

However, I've noticed today that the ticket machine at Romsey station is out of use. If on Monday the ticket machine is still OOU, what are my options? I've already noted down the collection number, so if I show that to the guard on the train and explain that I couldn't collect the tickets, would he or she accept it?

Is your Romsey to Southampton ticket TOD as well? If not pay onboard the train for Romsey to Southampton, then use one of the many machines at Southampton Central to print your TOD, on the asssumption that there'll be no one on duty at Romsey on a bank holiday.

The station you select for TOD does not prevent pickup elsewhere, they are just making sure don't expect to use a station where it cannot be done.
