Collecting pre booked tickets

Today, for the first time, I have chosen to collect my tickets from a TVM. How soon after the booking is completed will I be able to colelct them?

I gave it two hours, and it said there was no booking found!

Depends who booked through, usually 2-3 hours.

Ah, I see what happened now - the missus read out a B in the booking reference and it's an 8! No wonder it didn't work! I'm off to try it with the CORRECT reference number!

When you book tickets online can you pick them up from any National Rail station, often i have ordered tickets from Rochester but due to the machines not working i have had to pick them up in Bromley. Is this because they are both southeastern stations or would it work anywhere

They will work on any TVM as far as I know.

Well it worked out OK! We are not speaking now, as she blames me for my bad writing!

I thought you could get them from anywhere. I also had some idea that it might take three hours before you can get them printed, so when it didn't work after two hours I wondered if that was right.

It depends who you book it through. With Trainline-powered sites, it's generally two hours before you can collect the tickets, but with WebTIS (e.g. East Coast, Southern and Chiltern) it's usually instant.

I used WebTIS, so if I'd got the reference right, I'd have been OK!

I thought there may have been a delay in the system, I didn't know there was a difference between Trainline and WebTIS, thanks Barry

Certainly with webtis I can order tickets and they will be on the Fasticket machine before I can cycle there (about 7 mins).

that is not correct,at southport quite a few people turn up wanting to collect pre paid tkts but they can't trainline giving out duff info

What user 'Hanger98' said is partially correct - Any tickets for collection from Tickets on Departure (ToD) can be collected from any ToD enabled station even if the specified station is not the one you requested, as all ToD software is linked to a central database. The only problem with Southport is that the software at this station is not ToD enabled

I'm led to believe that Trainline manually check payments go through before releasing the booking. Don't know if true or not, but it sounds plausible.

I once booked some tickets online through NXEC and walked down to Waverley (20 mins) to uplift them, didn't work, and was told to come back 4 hours later...

The quickest I've done is 3 minutes at York. The time to put laptop away and walk to the ticket machine.
