Colas no more?

Hey folks not sure if this is legit bu just been informed that Colas Rail have gone bankrupt. Any of you on here know if this is true or have any more info on the matter?

I sure hope its not true for all working for Colas,

Nothing from their media department as yet however it is a large company so maybe one division has gone?

there was a post on the wnxx forum suggesting that colas rail (i figured they meant the freight part) was finished in its current form..

been suggested that another french company operating in the uk have bought it... GBRf were suggested... but it could just be idle gossip... you know how these things start and snowball...


could just be a rebranding or something inocent... that said i wouldnt be surprised if it had been bought/sold

I hope its not true.

If it is, there is something fundamentally wrong somewhere. The smaller, private enterprise loco/freight suppliers never seem to last. So many have come and gone.

personally the reason i could believe that the freight part of the business was/is.could be sold is quite simply that Colas dont really have that much work at the moment/anymore...
i mean they lost the daventry-dollands moor to GBRf, they lost the Transfesa (spelling???) train to DBS... the Boston steel train is running with shorter length trains, other than that all they seem to have is the log trains to/from chirk and some steel service running between south wales and dollands moor...

fair enough iv seen suggestions that their staff are (or may be) all part time or casual/as required ... but they have 5x class 66s locos that they are (i assume) leasing yet you rarely see more than 2 of them working at the same time... with the 47s seemingly used constantly on the boston train...


but we shall see, id certainly prefer they were bought out by another FOC rather than go down the toilet with people losing their jobs...

iirc its still running .. or still going to run if its not at the moment...
i had heard from someone who read somewhere that when DBS get the 92s running on HS1 with freight that they could send the transfesa stuff and the ford trains along HS1 to dagenham... rather than go round london...

so they must still be moving trains or planning on continuing/resuming running them

i could be wrong though...

i think DBS are running/retaining the transfesa contract since DBS own all or part of transfesa.... i cant remember for sure without checking through the mountain of magazines or checking wikipedia...

Definitely still running (with DBS), ran to Dagenham yesterday in fact; bear in mind that it only usually runs two or three times a week.

been posted on the wnxx forum that the company is apparently not being sold or closed... (but no confirmation)...

however its been suggested that the rumour about Colas going down the toilet, or being sold started due to GBRf taking over 66841-66845 from the end of this month when Colas returns them to the ROSCO
with colas apparently to recieve replacement locos from the 66411-66420 batch when they are returned by DRS to the ROSCO


no doubt we will hear more in the coming hours and days...

Well I hope they are still running, 47727 "Rebecca" is probably my favorite currently-operating loco. Wouldn't want to see her scrapped!

It probably is just the Railfreight side of the business, AMEY is probably the second biggest rail Civil Engineer contractor after Balfour Beatty. AMEY Colas have a massive £125 million NWR Contract awarded 2 years ago for the High Output Track Renewals. Jarvis for an example went bust as they put all their eggs into one basket, they were awaiting NWR to award a Track renewals contract but it got delayed! other than this they did not have a lot of other work in the pipeline so it was an obvious end.

Hope it's all ok with 'Colas', I can't afford a 'Save the coolest name on the railway' campaign just yet..The name being 'Robin of Templecombe' of course
