It also assumes that Porterbrook would want to sell. Why would they when they can lease them out?

That is why I ruminated that allover yellow would remove the EMR branding and probably easier and cheaper to apply - unless the Rosco fund the rebranding.

Evening all. I’m just wondering about what’s happening with 43050 & 43060 now? There hasn’t been any reports of them working any test trains so just wondering what’s happening with them? Are colas keeping them and getting more?

I remember reading -though where I know not- that the class 43 trials were deemed successful. I also remember sentiments to the effect that we could expect to see more test trains worked by the type in due course.

As coincidence would have it, there is a report on WNXX (subscription section) today that 43060 worked Leicester - Derby RTC - Leicester with 43045 over the weekend, no mention of 43050 though
I suppose the 43's are ideal for jobs where there is a need for a low RA locomotive, a decent top speed and not much weight to be pushed around where having a locomotive/cab either end is a massive help rather than a hinderance, plus I would guess that the 415v 3ph hotel power might be useful for powering the test trains equipment, even if it is just a backup supply for the onboard generator.

How do the 43's compare in terms of fuel efficiency in reliability to the 37's? I'm assuming the 43's must be a good bit better in that regard given how much newer they are, I'll be sorry not to see the 37's if they are replaced but the 43's seem to make a lot of sense for this use.

60 and 45 were meant to be going out on a PLPR train tonight but they didn’t want to uncouple from one another, so ended up not going anywhere.
