Colas 70

In Rugby on the viaduct over Butlers Leap at the end of the turning triangle for Colas works was a Colas 70 coupled to some sort of track machine.

I couldn't see the number on the 70 due to the shrubbery on the embankment but it was an unusual sight as in my 4 years living in Rugby on regularly driving under that viaduct it's only the 2nd time I've ever seen anything that far along - it's even just beyond the electrified section.

Does anyone know which 70 it was?

If it was coupled to 60087 as well, then it would have been 70810.

No idea what, if anything, was on the other end only to guess that it must have been a fairly long consist to get as far as beyond the electrification and onto the viaduct.

The distance from the hand points to the stop block at the far end of the viaduct is about 8 car lengths so most of the time you won't see anything up there from the road when shorter vehicles are moving about.

There's no 'turning triangle' though, there I can assure you of that!

what i meant by triangle is simply that stock has to travel from the mainline down this old line and reverse into the Colas yard.

Triangle not an accurate description granted.

Headshunt / shunt neck yes. Been a while since I last went down there, the weeds / veg must be rampant by now...

To save spamming and opening a new thread, I passed through Spalding earlier about 7am on my way to King's Lynn for work and I noticed a Class 70 (70801) loaded up with sleepers/ballast.

One thing I thought was that the Class 70 was restricted to certain areas/lines? Also there any reason why they would use a 70 for said job? It was still parked in the same place, still running around half 4, too on my way back.
