All personal taste but I find PG tips thin and insipid as I said above. No idea why anyone would buy or drink them. The colour is not the same either. PR or tetley is almost gray

Typhoo is no better than PG and Tetley either.

Aldi gold blend is a surprisingly nice cup of tea.

In my teens I did a Saturday job in a local J Lyons teashop, eventually rising to the status of operating the tea counter. Now that tea was really good and it wasn't available to buy and take home. Joe Lyons was universally known as the place to get a reliably good cuppa.

A friend of mine, aged about 90, who died a few weeks ago, started working for J. Lyons and spent several years in India tasting and blending tea. When J. Lyons closed down he set up an independent company. In recent years he has done regular work for Yorkshire Tea and was proud of the fact that they'd gained the biggest share of the British market. Well, maybe that was partly because of their marketing abilities, but he liked to believe that his skills had something to do with it.

I daresay, as some posters have claimed, that there are big differences between mass market teas and specialist products - one of them being price. The same with wine. If I can find a mass-produced tea that I like whose price is reasonable I'll drink that, and carry on doing so, rather than others that I don't like to so much, or specialist teas that I might find I like more, whose cost is higher.

We like Aldi's own brand coffee, it's inexpensive and strong enough. Problem is there are three lines of which the decaffeinated one tends to sell quickest. at local Aldis I've had to scour through trays of coffee to find a pack of decaf sat at the back, since Aldi are dreadful at monitoring their stock on the shelves.

It's all well and good to say that "proper" coffee and loose-leaf tea are the better quality options... but who in the world has time to faff about with that every time they want a cuppa?

I'll occasionally treat myself to coffee made in a French press/cafétiere, but life's too short to spend ages cleaning it every day.

Decaff though is just as pointless as alcohol-free beer. If I'm not having alcohol I don't want something pretending to be alcohol, just as if I don't want caffeine I won't try and fool myself with an imitation.

At risk of going off-topic, the same goes for meat-free options. If I'm not having meat I don't want something that is a poor imitation. Subway have it right with their veggie patty.

It takes way longer than that to get all the grains out of the end of the plunger. It's also a pain getting the dead grains into the bin and not down the sink where they'll clog your drains. If it takes you ten seconds to clean, you haven't cleaned it.

Am I in a minority by not really liking Coffee and failing to see the attraction of the stuff?
When I was a kid growing up in the 80/90s Coffee seemed to be a choice between Nescafé and Maxwell House and if you wanted one when out and about a greasy spoon cafe would knock you one up in a polystyrene cup and charge about 20p for it. I certainly don’t remember Starbucks/Costa etc being a thing. Nowadays people seem obsessed by Coffee and it seems some can’t function without a Coffee or can’t be seen in public without a Coffee cup welded to their hand. Personally I wouldn’t even know what to order if I went into a branch of Starbucks as just asking for some Nescafé Gold Blend would probably have me laughed out of there.

I don't like coffee and know plenty of people who don't either. I don't mind the smell so much but it's the taste. That goes for coffee flavoured cakes, desserts etc too. I drink plenty of tea but mostly all types of Chinese/Japanese but not English.

Making coffee in a French press is easy, the cleaning part most certainly is not!

Aeropress on the other hand is extremely easy to clean, though it is bit harder, but still fairly simple to make coffee with it.

Nope, I'm a Coffee fan and can't stand the taste of Tea

I don't particularly like or hate coffee, but felt it to be a waste of money to buy a tea when going to a cafe. I often held work meetings in cafes and now understand that the money is actually for renting the space.

That stopped with covid and now if I have coffee after 10am I can't sleep until past midnight, and I usually get up between 4-6am so need to sleep early. I agree with the poster who said decaf is pointless so when my work cafe meetings restarted I tend to get a juice or water+food instead.

I have an endless supply of teabags as I stay in a lot of hotels and take them home. PG, Yorkshire, sometimes you get fancier types of tea, as well as non black teas, they are all fine, I prefer not having the same drink every day anyway.

I empty the cafetiere though a tea strainer to catch the grounds.

The grounds won't clog the sink, they are tiny. Don't let them get in a dishwasher, though, as they can clog the filters in that.

I have a plastic basin in my sink which will catch any stray grounds, 99% go in the bin anyway.

I've been pouring coffee grounds down the sink for years and it's yet to cause me any issues...
