There's an advert for Clover spread on tv at the moment.

There is a train in the background near the beginning. Looks like it is in old ONE colours, but it doesn't look like a ONE train.

Anybody know what it is?

Actually just seen it again and think it might be some type of suburban EMU..... Out of Liverpool Street...?

I think it's a recycled advert, as I'm sure I remember seeing it a few years ago - which would explain the ONE colours.

I would say a 317, the position of the pan appears a bit low in comparison to the roof line for a 315.

I would suggest a 321, because of the profile of the cab roof and front end. But I am a tad worried that the coaches look a little short, and I can't seem to make the windows match up with any class. It looks foreign to me!

No it's definitely "One" liveried 317s, probably 317/6s.

The advert can be found here, and the short "train scene" occurs at the start of the advert three seconds in:

At least it's filmed in Britain. I've lost count of the number of adverts recently (not just those on trains, but there are two on at the moment, including one for an expensive train ticket website) which are clearly filmed abroad, yet seeking to target themselves at the British market.

The 321 is the same length as the 317 (4x 20m body) and 317/6s (infact all of the second batch of 317s) have the same cab roof profile as a 321, however the 321 has one cab window on each side (in the door) whereas a 317 (and 315) has two (one in the door and one in front of it). The trains in the advert appear to have two.

The further potential issue for it being 321s is that, whilst I can find a few images of a 'One' liveried 321, it is always the same unit, 321446, and two of the captions make reference to it being the only one in the livery.

Would this be a deliberate advertising ploy, especially if they were to use modern aesthetically-pleasing images to obtain the best visual image for the product they are marketing ?

The "Specsavers" advertisment with the rolling stock contained therein has already been mentioned recently in another thread in recent times.

If the product that the advert is attempting to sell is not related to the train featured, then that doesn’t strike me as an issue. Obviously an advert for “an expensive train ticket website” doesn’t fall into this category though!
