I suspect it will have been one of the marston vale ones before they were all converted back to full time stations

Suspect Dilton Marsh is the answer

Shippea Hill?
List at:
Perhaps/probably not entirely up to date.
Was just about to suggest this - it's 77 miles, although I'm not entirely sure if Shippea Hill is still a request stop. Seems to be a few miles closer (although I suppose it might depend which way round you go to get to Dilton Marsh - not sure of the mileage from Westbury, but it's definitely further than Shippea Hill if you go via Salisbury).

Shippea Hill & Brampton used to be request stops but have not been so since 2020. Greater Anglia no longer has any request stop stations.

Blake Hall on the Epping - Ongar Railway.
Trains only stop on request for the people who live in the station.

I believe Bearley and Claverdon are request stops on all London Midland services (on Chiltern Railways they are mandatary stops) so these may be the closest ones to London i think. They are slightly closer than Wootton Wawen and possibly closer than Dilton Marsh too.

Dillon Marsh is about 100 miles west of London
Surely Shippea Hill is a bit closer - I reckon 130km (80 miles).

On the current London & South East map (2022) it shows Shippea Hill as a request stop.

Bearley is 95 miles to London while Dilton Marsh is 102 (going by walking distances on Google Maps). Wootton Wawen is 98 miles if you want a pure request stop.

Interesting Google Maps gave me Claverdon as being slightly further away than Bearley though i think its going on roads and footpaths.

Ah I didn’t know that. Do you know why they stopped them in East Anglia? Better acceleration on the 755s allowing more time to do so? Why do those in the Westcountry still exist?

It all started in April 2020 during the pandemic. Guards where not going through the trains initially so couldn’t access who wanted to alight so it was decided that all trains would call at all R stops. As you say the better acceleration of 755s helped but allowance was there in the schedules anyway.

With Freshford and Avoncliff now compulsory stops, Dilton Marsh is now the only request stop on the Cardiff - Portsmouth route.

Further afield on the Westbury - Weymouth line are the request stops at Thornford, Yetminster & Chetnole.
