Prior to that was Wigan (2nd station... 1860- 1896). The 1st station was situated prior to the existing Wigan Wallgate station and the 2nd station was situated after the existing Wigan Wallgate station....but to continue...Upholland (1st station - 1848 to 1852)
i did look at Wigan (2nd station) but as the writeup on Wikipedia said that its footprint overlapped with that of Wigan Wallgate, it seemed that it would infringe Rule 4.Prior to that was Wigan (2nd station... 1860- 1896). As you may be aware the lines from Wigan to Southport and Wigan to Headbolt Lane bifurcate in that area, but from wha my research over the years, this 2nd station only had platforms on the line of the Liverpool and Bury Railway whereas there were no platforms on the line of the Manchester and Southport Railway, hence the validity.i did look at Wigan (2nd station) but as the writeup on Wikipedia said that its footprint overlapped with that of Wigan Wallgate, it seemed that it would infringe Rule 4.
