I did a bit of checking around on maps and other information and it seems that there were only ever two Cwmsyfiog stations. The Wiki entry for the station gives names and dates but not locations. However I found two stations on old OS maps, viz:

Cwmsyfiog (1st station), opened as Cwmsyfiog and Brithdir in 1908, but with a name change to Cwmsyfiog in 1924. From 1937 this became a miners-only platform which survived until the line closed in 1962. The original name was a bit hopeful, even though the station had its own footbridge over the Rhymney River, because Brithdir had its own station on the Rhymney Railway which had opened in 1871. Maybe the GWR (which took over both lines in 1923) had complaints from passengers who arrived with heavy baggage to find a trek down a steep bank and across the river to find the ex-Rhymney station on the other side!

Cwmsyfiog (2nd station) aka Cwmsyfiog Halt, which opened in 1937 and again, closed in 1962. This was about 600 metres north west of the first station, so we would have encountered it first on this journey.
