A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
A special treat...a journey number that is the same as the year of my birth...... :lol:


We next move to England for the next journey.....

This is number 1945 in the series so far......

The journey starts at the closed station of Lancaster Green Ayre
It follows the line of the "Little" North Western Railway
It then follows the line of the Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe and West Yorkshire Railway...via Newsholme...note 1st and 2nd stations
It then follows the line of the Liverpool and Bury Railway...via Chew Moor
It then follows the line of the St Helens and Runcorn Gap Railway...via Rainford Village...via Widnes South
It then follows the line of the LNWR Canada Dock Branch Line...via Edge Lane
The journey ends at the closed station of Canada Dock

The first closed station on this journey is Lancaster Green Ayre

1745 -- the Second Jacobite Rising. 1845 -- Sir John Franklin's expedition to find the North-West Passage, sets out. 1945 -- Xenophon PCDGS born. 2045 -- ???

PS - to continue the series of '45s backwards:

1645 - Battle of Naseby
1545 - Sinking of the Mary Rose during the Battle of the Solent.
1445 - Henry VI marries Margaret of Anjou at Titchfield Abbey, an event that caused political instability contributing to the outbreak of the War of the Roses.
1345 - Henry of Lancaster duffing up the French in Gascony, just one small part of the 100 years' war
1245 - Henry III of England and Alexander II of Scotland sign the Treaty of York, agreeing on a line for the Scottish border.
1145 - King Stephen and Empress Matilda continuing their civil war
1045 - Edward the Confessor marries Edith of Wessex and starts construction of Westminster Abbey (and there were three popes in one year)
(gets a bit hazy before that)

I seem to recall from historical novels: weren't Henry's, and Edward's, marriages a little odd; in that both were virtually saints, determined on total celibacy -- even the begetting of heirs, not to be thought of? -- whence political / historical complications and difficulties ...
