Altrincham (1st station - 1849 to 1881)
In the direction we are travelling, that would not have been possible, as it was a terminal station only accessible for MSJ&AR train services from the Manchester direction. For many years, after station clearance, the land area served as car parking in the centre of the town. Many years ago, I was told there may have been a temporary station in the Stockport Road area on the other side of the town, but I may be incorrectly recalling that matter.

The original Altrincham station that was open between 1849 and 1881 was sited on the line coming from the Chester direction when services south of Altrincham were started by the Cheshire Midland Railway in 1862. The original MSJ&AR terminus station open 1849-81 that was sited off the through line was named Bowdon; the site is now occupied by the new Altrincham Hospital.
