I'm having belated qualms -- was the Oxford & Rugby Railway: the line (subsequently GWR) southward through Fenny Compton; where we should have headed south on the "main", not headed on eastward to Byfield?

I do believe you are right. As a matter of interest the section of the Oxford & Rugby north of Fenny Compton was abandoned as a project when the GWR (who wanted an independent route to Birmingham) took over. Although I did read somewhere that the never-used embankment of the O&RR is still visible as it diverges from the Cherwell Valley line.

There would seem to be a bit of spelling-related disagreement: per the Wiki entry on the village, it appears that village itself is spelt "Badgeworth", but for the indeed short-lived station (1843 -- 1846), "Badgworth" (no "e"), seems more favoured. This location cropped up in Journey 786 this April -- adjudged then, if I read rightly, that the participant was in error in posting it, because that journey followed the GWR line between Gloucester and Cheltenham; whereas Badgworth station was on the parallel Midland (ex-Birmingham & Gloucester) line only: if the journey had featured that line instead, Badgworth would have "counted".

I think the problem is that Badg(e)worth and two other closed stations on the B&GR have been missed before we get to the divergence of the Gloucester Loop Line after the open station of Ashchurch. I can only suggest that we note their names and carry on, but will wait for the umpire's decision!

The line in question was sometimes referred to as the East and West Junction Railway. What is to be remembered was that it was Fenny Compton West, not Fenny Compton, that was on the line we were following.
