At Shirebrook North, shouldn't we -- instead of going further north -- reverse, and go east along the LD&EC line, heading toward Lincoln?

I’m totally puzzled

The only other connection we can take is after Bolsover South?

By all the maps which I have; Shirebrook North (alias Langwith Junction) is a four-way junction: GNR Leen Valley Extension to the south (GN trackage ends here); to west and east, Lancashire Derbyshire & East Coast [later GCR] main line (west to Chesterfield, east ultimately to Lincoln); to the north through Cresswell & Welbeck, is LD&EC's Sheffield branch. Seems to me, one can simply reverse at Shirebrook North and roll off eastward -- no need to involve Bolsover South.
