PS - Carlisle London Road is interesting. It was the original terminus of the Newcastle and Carlisle and is always shown on an east-facing spur, as the goods station which succeeded it was - so doesn't count in our current journey. However it was also used for a short period by the Lancaster and Carlisle and (for a somewhat longer period) by the Maryport and Carlisle, both of which would have approached it from the west. I do wonder if there were temporary platforms on the N&C main line - it would have made life much easier and they didn't need planning permission in those days!
