Note: we have just traversed a chord linking the Quakers Yard & Merthyr to the Vale of Neath avoiding reversal at the open station of Merthyr Tydfil. It did exist, although apparently not for long! The map evidence suggests it was built after 1884 and was disused and disconnected at one end by 1901.

Note that Pyle has had three stations on the route we took.
The first station (1850 - 1876) was replaced by the second station (1876 - 1965) known as Pyle Junction. This was located about
250m further east. The third and current station was opened in 1994 about 500m west of Pyle Junction. So in future journeys we could note both Pyle SWR (1850 - 1876) and Pyle Junction (1876 - 1965), I think.
