Donibristle Halt

I always seem to associate that station with the NBR Aberdour line, so my comment of the preamble to this journey where the Fife Circle Line is concerned should be disregarded.

NOTE TO ALL CONTESTANTS

I have been struck down with the Norovirus infection since awakening last Tuesday.

I am sure we are all sorry to hear that, Paul (see my PM). I think we should carry on with the current journey, though. Could somebody else go next as I made the last posting.

Sorry to hear that Paul; hope you feel better soon.

I find myself rather confused as to our route, if not to say lost. I am assuming we are changing at Haymarket (metaphorically speaking) and joining the route of the Caledonian Railway there.

Railscot shows Gorgie East at the junction between the lines towards Haymarket and Edinburgh Princes Street, but this station was on the Edinburgh Suburban & Southside Junction Railway - a completely different route.

I can find no Ordnance Survey map evidence of any station having been at this location, but the Railway Clearing House map dated 1905 shows a Caledonian Railway station here. If there was a second station serving Gorgie, then (a) why can I not find any reference to it online, and (b) why can't I find it on OS maps? Conversely, if there was no second station in Gorgie, why was Gorgie ES&SJR station renamed Gorgie East? :?

Anyway, to keep things moving forward:

Hailes Halt

I'm finding this one a little bit challenging (that's probably more to do with me than the quiz though). I do have a map on order and hopefully things may become a little clearer once it has arrived.
Anyway. Many best wishes to you Paul. That is a very unpleasant thing to experience.

I can't find any evidence for the Gorgie East CR station either. I can only assume it's a very early one, documented in CR archives somewhere. It's notable that "Gorgie Park" - which looks like a big house of some kind - was just to the north. Landowners often asked for stations near their houses on early railways. We could ask the CR society
