A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
By the way, Houston seems to have been an early name for the first station at Uphall on the E&BR, so Tim's posting earlier did make sense.

Perhaps the fact that Uphall, being currently an OPEN station, caused me to ignore its very early history. Mea culpa.

Paul, Iam confused about the location of Beech Bridge , the only references I have found appear to show the station was positioned on the mainline beyond Hibel Road Station and on the Prestbury side of the tunnel, therefore beyond the point where there Bollington line diverged/joined?

Caught out on my very own patch making a posting without thinking. You are totally correct in what you say and the line from Bollington station neither passed through Macclesfield Beech Bridge station nor Macclesfield Hibel Road station

Wedgwood

This station appears on the timetable but is served by a bus. Not sure what the rules are in this situation? Apparently the platforms are fenced off and unusable..

Update - I checked National Rail Enquiries and I can buy a rail ticket to Wedgwood, but the bus will drop me off at Wedgwood Old Road, six minutes walk away. So it doesn't really serve the station. This has been the situation since 2004.
