The connection between the Pilmoor, Boroughbridge & Thirsk and the Thirsk & Malton Railways was never completed. It was part of a wider scheme approved in 1866 that also included a west to north curve at Malton to create a competing route to Scarborough. Although the earthworks and bridge over the ECML were completed before the scheme was scrapped, no rails were ever laid. It remains another of those great 'what ifs' of railway history!

We next move to Scotland for the next journey.....

This is number 488 in the series so far.....

The journey starts at the closed station of Buckie
It follows the line of the Highland Railway Buckie and Portressie Branch Line
It then follows the line of the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway
It then follows the line of the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway
It then follows the line of the Strathspey Railway
It then follows the line of the Morayshire Railway
It then follows the line of the GNoS Moray Coast Railway
It then follows the line of the Banff, Portsoy and Strathisla Railway
It then follows the line of the Great North of Scotland Railway Main Line
The journey ends at the closed station of Aberdeen Waterloo.

The first closed station on this journey is Buckie
