I think Vulcan Halt came before Winwick Quay, btw.

PS - for future reference - my reading of the map is that Vulcan Halt is north of Winwick Junction on the line to Earlestown and therefore not on this route. Is that correct?

We took the Warrington & Newton Railway via Parkside and Earlestown - taking us through Vulcan Halt, which was indeed north of Winwick Junction (or so has always been my understanding.)

Accepted. I admit to getting confused over that bit. Anyway I have now read about Newton Junction being the first between steam railways in the world, so I am glad I asked.
