Wolverhampton Low Level was the terminal station on the Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton Line. There was no through line which would have allowed through passenger train services from Dunstall Park to Heath Town in the direction that we have been travelling.

Was it?

I thought Wolverhampton Low Level was a through station accommodating the GWR Paddington-Birmingham Snow Hill/Shrewsbury/Chester/Birkenhead services.

Short Heath

As built maybe - but later maps appear to show quite clearly that the Walsall line became accessible from both Low Level and High Level - eg the 1949 1 inch OS map

A most humble apology

This will teach me to delve to the depths of my ancient map archives when I am drawing up these journeys and regard exceedingly old original line maps. I will take this as a reminder to also double check with more updated railway maps in future....

Incidentally, the pencil note on my hard-copy journey draft shows that I prepared this particular journey no less than 15 months ago and it has only just slowly worked its way up to the top of the pile.

I have another query upon which I need advice.

It concerns the station called Dudley Port Low Level that opened in 1850 and closed in 1964. I have a map that shows it being situated in-between Great Bridge North and Dudley stations

Any help would be most gratefully received.

I do not know if it has been mentioned or if the area has been covered yet, but a closed station on the cambrian coast line is moat lane which connected from just outside caersws station and builth road. It is now a lorry yard

I wonder if you are referring to that of Moat Lane Junction in Montgomeryshire that was near to the village of Caersws. The original station was opened in 1859 some distance away from the second-constructed station which was built to replace it as quite a busy interchange station. It had three platform faces and a refreshment room. The station closed on 31st December 1962 and shortly after closure, the station was demolished and no signs can now be seen to signify of its former existence.

It was situated in the area where a junction existed between the Newtown and Machynlleth Railway (constructed in 1863) and its divergence point from the Llanidloes and Newtown Railway (constructed in 1859).
