I think the next closed station is Upton And Blewbury on the DNS

However an aside - there is a connection between Potton (that we passed through earlier today) and Wantage Road (a closed station on the mainline west of Didcot) - and the Didcot Railway Centre. Any guesses?

The Sandy and Potton locomotive Shannon ended up on the Wantage Tramway and is now preserved at Didcot.

Thank you to all of you who entered the last quiz. Had not the rule about closed stations being subsequently reopened had not been in force, there would have been many more entries to have been made.

One final point to make, is that on the last part of this journey, between Whitchurch Town and Sutton Scotney, there was a very short-lived station called Barton Stacey that was opened in February 1940 and closed in December 1941.

As is the way of things, we change the country of the next journey leg, leaving the main part of the next journey in Wales, but starting from the great historical English railway town that is Crewe.

The journey starts at the open station of Crewe
It follows the line of the Chester and Crewe Railway
It then follows the line of the Chester and Holyhead Railway
It then follows the line of the Bangor and Caernarvon Railway
It then follows the line of the Caernarvonshire Railway
It then follows the line of the Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway
It then follows the line of the Manchester and Milford Railway
(On that railway the three stations reopened by the Gwili Railway do not count in this quiz, as per the rules specification)
It then follows the line of the West Wales line
The journey ends at the open station of Pembroke Dock

Because of the position of Menai Bridge township where you have to cross over the Menai Straits onto Ynys Mon, I completely forgot that Menai Bridge station was on the mainland, before the famous railway bridge was accessed. Menai Bridge station was a replacement for an even earlier station called Britannia Bridge station.........My apologies to one and all.

[No - Menai Bridge station was on the mainland at the junction of the Holyhead and Carnarvon lines. It had four platform faces - two for the Holyhead line and two for the Carnarvon. The first staion on Anglesey was and still is Llanfair PG.]

Of course there was...that is twice I have sinned on this leg..:roll:

What actually happened is that I have a very long list of all the stations, opened and closed, on this particular long leg that ends in south-west Wales and I folded it over in readiness for the Aberyswyth and Welsh Coast Railway part of this journey. However, in doing so, I caused Afon Wen (which I have clearly marked as three-platform station that was closed on 7th December 1964) to be "folded underneath" with Black Rock Halt showing as the first closed station at the top of the page , which I then used to make my posting.

Too many "Senior Moments" these days ...
