We are now on the Cheltenham and Great Western Union Railway after reversal, so the first closed station that I show after Cheltenham Malvern Road is.....

Haresfield........Opened in 1854 and closed in 1965

I knew this line would be a problem as both the Great Western Union Railway and the Midland Railway had parallel track some distance apart, but for the sake of this quiz, take onwards stations from Haresfield as this line of the Cheltenham and Great Western Union Railway has a goodly numbers of "halts" upon it and proceeds for a good distance before it joins to the Great Western Main Line.

NOTE : I have discounted the following Stonehouse (Bristol Road) station because of the open STONEHOUSE station

For the sake of good order, I will now post the next station after Haresfield as.....

Ebley Crossing Halt.....Closed in 1964

Cheltenham Malvern Road and reverse - or direct to Churchdown

Churchdown was a station on the line of the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway.
Originally opened in August 1842 but closed in September 1842
Re-opened in February 1874 then finally closed in 1964.

But if Churchdown doesn't count as it was on the Birmingham and Gloucester line surely Haresfield doesn't either as it was on the Bristol and Gloucester rather than the CGWU which had separate tracks with no platforms at Haresfield? Or am I (as usual) misinterpreting?

Again, I was aware of this but my records show that station as being on the Tetbury avoiding line when the line with the three stations between Kemble and Swindon was fully opened for passenger use.

But is is shown - on contemporary OS maps - as Tetbury Road, on the 'main' line, before the Tetbury branch was built. Where the Fosse Way crosses the current line.

This is where the problem arises with old archive information....

One route shows:-
Brimscombe
Tetbury Road
Kemble

Another route shows:-
Brimscombe
St Mary's Crossing Halt
Chalford
Kemble

This would appear to show two route lines between Brimscombe and Kemble. I chose the latter when designing the end part of that particular leg as there is an extra closed station on that one. There were problems envisaged at both the start and the end of that line.....and indeed, these problems have surfaced with a vengeance!!!
