Dumgoyne was originally Killearn

May I shed some light on this matter. When the Blane Valley Railway was authorised to be extended to Aberfoyle by the services that were made available by the setting up of the Strathendrick and Aberfoyle Railway, which opened on 1st August 1882, a new station on that line was opened with the name of Killearn, which meant that the existing Blane Valley Railway station of Killearn, which of course was in a totally different location, was then renamed Dumgoyne.

Therefore, it is correct to name both of these two closed railway stations on this journey.

Ah the station that never was...

Castle Semple: Views north (left) and south from the Howwood – Lochwinnoch road overbridge at the site of the proposed (but never built) G&SW station between Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch.

Though a platform was provided for the use of the Estate workers.

The original Paisley Canal station was also omitted from the list on the journey. The current station has been built on a new site, on the East side of Causeyside Street. The two locations are nearly 100yds apart.

It was the fact that the platform there at Castle Semple was indeed used by the estate workers was deemed justification for its inclusion.

A precedent exists by the similar use of Wynn Hall Halt by the estate workers there on the railway that ran from Rhosllannerchrugog and indeed a railmotor service ran from 1905 to 1915 that served Wynn Hall Halt.

No excuses here...this was an oversight made when posting and the records show both that particular original station and the Saucel goods station.

I'm wary about posting a location shown as a 'Goods Station' just in case it isn't valid.

Goods stations that have NEVER had any passenger services are not allowed to be used on this quiz. However, stations such as Liverpool Road (Liverpool and Manchester Railway) and Oldham Road (Manchester and Leeds Railway) that have handled both passsenger trains and goods trains in their early days are allowed.

I hope that this section of the quiz rules answers queries raised concerning the matter of goods stations.
