It then follows the line of the Shrewsbury and Hereford Railway
It then follows the line of the Hereford, Ross and Gloucester Railway
It then follows the line of the Ross and Monmouth Railway

INFORMATION......Specific to the direction that this journey is taking

One must be aware of the route taken from the mid-point on the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company after the closed station of Upper Pontnewydd had been passed on the short connecting line to the Pontypool, Caerleon and Newport Railway that passed through the still-open station of Cwmbran and via the Llantarnam Junction area, the closed station of Llantarnam (PC&N) (rather than the longer route that ran via the more southerly Newport area) where we would then meet the closed stations of Lower Pontnewydd and of Panteg in the direction we were taking on the Pontypool, Caerleon and Newport Railway as we make our way northwards to meet the line of the Newport, Abergavenny and Newport Railway.

On the principle that "you can't win": if I post "Pontypool Road (1st station)", it will prove non-existent. If I ignore that one and post the first station north of Pontypool Road (present-day); Pontypool Road (1st) will turn out to be real. So, what the heck --
